About Tank Hollow Fisheries
I am Vance Schultze, and along with my wife Ruth Ann, are the people behind Tank Hollow Fisheries. We opened for business, supplying sportfish for pond and lake stocking in 1982. After many attempts to diversify the business, including mollies, swordtails, angelfish, cichlids and fancy goldfish, we began breeding longfin koi in 1995. The wholesale demand for our longfins has been so great that I have never been able to completely fill the demand.
We still offer complete lake stocking and management services to the south Texas area. The stocking of bass, catfish, bluegill and baitfish are still the staple of our business, but the production of quality longfin koi have become a passion as well as an integral part of the business.
People always ask how a person happens to end up in this kind of business. When I was much younger, my passion was fishing and I would fish seven days a week. I thought that if I had a degree in fisheries, I would understand fish better and become that much better of a fisherman. After completing a degree at Texas A&M, establishing a fish farm and raising two children, I am still hoping for the day when I will ever find the time to fish again.
